Glorious Glistening Ghee

Clarified butter also known as ghee …

I have been meaning to post since a long time but as you all know how the wheels might steer into a different direction when you expect the least. The last few months have been a bit tumultuous and hope to ensue to something more stable ..

Well , having said that I will start with the most nourishing post for 2018 and hopefully will give you or your family the source of nourishment if you like.

Clarified butter, as you all know it or ghee as we know it, has been around for centuries and has withstood the test of time. You can google all the health benefits that it provides and be rest assured that the benefits are plenty.

For a number of years, i resorted to the store bought ghee as it was quick and easy, however, each time I used it there was a very peculiar aroma to it which completely put me off store bought ghee and thereon,I decided to go the extra mile and make ghee myself . Homemade ghee gives you immense satisfaction !

And when the luscious grainy texture peeks through the glass jar – it’s heaven at home !

So, without any further ado – here’s how you can make it.

Ingredients:

4-5 packs of 250gm butter ( salted /unsalted ) – I use Lurpak

Method:

Add the butter to a large pot and let it melt, bring it to a rolling boil – as you stir you would notice the texture will be quite thick and creamy but don’t worry, let it simmer for 40-45 minutes until the residue sits at the bottom and you can see golden gleam on top and that’s when you know your very own clarified butter a.k.a ghee is made !
