Aloo Matar – Potatoes & Peas

Versatile Potatoes; Third dish on the blog and soon to be followed by many more.

I personally , really enjoy this dish  as it can be paired with pulses, rice , deep fried bread or whole meal flat breads ( roti / paranthas ).

So much so, if neither of the above is available you can fill it in a panini , add some cheese and voila! Dinner is served.

All the preparations for this dish, can be done over the weekend and putting everything together on a weekday should be simple enough which will give you a hot home cooked meal !

Ingredients:

3 potatoes, diced
2 cups frozen peas
1/4th  cup chopped tomatoes
1-2 green chillies
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/4th tsp turmeric powder
1 tablespoon coriander powder
Salt to taste
2 tablespoon oil

Here’s how I made it:

Peel, wash the potatoes and dice accordingly.
Heat oil and add the cumin seeds. Once they splutter add the potatoes and stir.
Add the peas, tomatoes, spices and mix gently.
Let it cook for 10-15 min on simmered heat whilst stirring occasionally
Once the potatoes are cooked ( you can check by inserting a fork ,if it pushes through easily, then you know its done. )
Cook on high heat for another 5 min, till water evaporates and oil is glistening at the edges.

Serve hot with rice or roti !
